Territorial research workshops in two selected disadvantaged communities in Latin America
The workshop in Ecuador was held with the participation of producers from the province of Azuay, members of the Prograserviv Cooperative installed in San Joaquín. The Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS), with which the GESPLAN Group has been collaborating since 2011 in different research and teaching activities, and which had already carried out a previous training activity for the members of the cooperative, also participates in the activity . The workshops are presented as an increase in training initiated at the time by UPS, and are complemented by contributions from farmers from the SAT Camposeven in the Region of Murcia (Spain). With the concurrence of organic fruit and vegetable producers from two different areas - Azuay province in Ecuador and Murcia region in Spain - the workshop was held in a meeting format to share experience and took place on May 30 and 31 and June 1, 2016.

The workshops in Peru were held through the Aymara Women Coordinator (CMA) formed by about 400 families from the province of Puno with whom the GESPLAN Group has been carrying out continuous work since 2008 , consisting of a development project in the textile crafts sector to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacities of Aymara women. The complement of activity proposed for the realization of the workshops is in the nutritional aspect and a balanced diet suitable for the Altiplano. To this end, we had nutrition experts from the Universidad Católica Sedes Sapientiae (UCSS) with whom the Gesplan group has been collaborating since May 2015. The workshops took place in Juli and Huancané (Province of Puno) on days 8 and 9 June 2016
Spain Conference
Two workshops were held in Spain:
  • One to share experiences in Murcia, working on principles 3, 4, 7 and 8 at the headquarters of the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) with agricultural entrepreneurs, academics and cooperatives.
  • Another in Madrid on good practices business, working on principles 2 and 6 and on governance structures working on principles 9 and 10.
Days for dialogue, reflection and debate in Spain
The days were intended to share the good practices that the GESPLAN Group has developed in business environments, incorporating other academic, business and civil society actors and thus enrich those activities.
One of the places that FAO detects is Campo de Cartagena (Murcia) where advanced productive practices in food production coincide, a close relationship with the academy, and economic agents linked to youth employment and the empowerment of women. This context presents , in itself, a nucleus that is worth conceptualizing and exporting to other latitudes as appropriate.

To prepare this material, a Conference was held at the headquarters of the Catholic University of Murcia on April 21 and 22, 2016, which was preceded by two thematic working groups on February 25 and 26 in San Pedro de Pinatar (Murcia), incorporating other actors, largely business, who have shown their good work in relation to agrifood systems.

At the Plenary Conference held in Madrid, a set of good business practices was shared that can be the backbone of investments carried out by companies abroad. The Conference was held at the UPM School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering, on May 24, 2016.

It was preceded by three thematic tables between managers of companies, cooperatives, associations and researchers in the agri-food sector that discussed three aspects collected in the IAR Principles: governance of professional organizations, environmental sustainability and sustainability of the food chain
